Community Involvement
As a church, FBC-Durham exists to delight in, display, and declare the glory of God and as Young Adults we seek to live our lives in this manner. One way we do this is by being engaged in our communities through several church-wide ministry initiatives.
YOUNG ADULTS
The Triangle is home to more than 100,000 men and women in their 20’s and early 30’s – that’s at least 1 out of every 15 people in the area. Far more than half are single. Many are highly educated – we have one of the highest ratios of PhDs per capita in the country. As a result the tech sector and professional opportunities continue to grow. And we are in a unique position to be a blessing to others in our stage of life. Through friendships, common interests, and spiritual intentionality we believe it’s possible to reach our peers through Christ.
URBAN MINISTRY
Through after school programs, tutoring, and a Care Center we seek to be an expression of Christ in the neighborhoods around us. There are many ways to get involved - for example, Good News Clubs in the afternoons or mentoring at Agape Corner Boarding School. Or join with others as they look to invest themselves in a particular neighborhood by living there, building relationships, and becoming active members of the community. For more information contact Diana Lisle or Matthew Hodges.
INTERNATIONALS
So many people come from around the world to study and work in the Triangle. Though they are in our offices, labs, and classrooms it's surprisingly rare for them to be invited into an American's home. So as we build friendships we serve not only as ambassadors for our country but for Christ as well. At FBC-Durham we are glad to help new members of our community through the period cultural adjustment, we deliver beds for free in the fall, and offer ESL classes for all ages during the week.
