SENIOR ADULT LUNCH

All senior adults are invited to join us on Tuesday, August 22, at 11:30am in Morgan Hall for our monthly luncheon. This month, we’ll enjoy a banana split social.  Please RSVP the church office by 5:00pm on Friday, August 18. We we look forward to seeing you there!

INTERNATIONAL STUDENT SHOPPING TRIP

Looking for an outreach opportunity with internationals in the area? Consider helping FBC International Connections by driving international students to and from Target on Saturday morning, August 26. We need approx. 15 drivers with cars (or vans). If interested, please contact Tim MacArthur or call the church office at 919-688-7308 ext. 21.

HOME FELLOWSHIPS HOSTS’ & LEADERS’ MEETING

There will be a meeting this Sunday afternoon, August 20, for those serving as Home Fellowships Hosts and Leaders. We will meet in Room 342 from 4:30-6:00pm.  We will discuss the upcoming 2017-18 Home Fellowships year and prepare for the Home Fellowships Launch.  A light meal will be provided. Thanks so much for your willingness to serve in this ministry and we look forward to seeing you there!

CHILDREN’S MINISTRY VOLUNTEERS NEEDED

We will have our next Children’s Ministry volunteers training on Wednesday, August 23, from 6:30–7:30pm in the Children’s Hall. This training is a requirement for all new volunteers (Kids BFL, Extended Session, Wednesday Nights, Nursery) who have not yet completed the training, or for any current volunteers who did not come to training last year. Childcare will be provided for babies–5th grade. Contact Kristen Snyder or Kevin Schaub with questions.

HOME FELLOWSHIP LAUNCH & MEET THE TREADWAYS

Don’t miss the Home Fellowships Launch next Sunday, August 27, at 6:00pm in the Sanctuary, followed by dessert. Regardless of how long you have participated in our Home Fellowships ministry, you will not want to miss this event. We will reiterate our vision of the HF ministry and how one can get involved, pray for this coming year, and give a brief overview of the various homes. In addition, we will have a chance to welcome our new Director of Worship Wes Treadway and his wife Annie. The event will conclude with an opportunity to enjoy fellowship and tasty desserts as we dismiss. You will want to make every effort to attend.

INTERNATIONAL LABOR DAY WELCOME PICNIC

Come join the international connections team on Monday, September 4 from 11:00am-2:00pm as we welcome new international friends with a picnic at Falls Lake! We’ll be at the Beaver Dam Shelter #23. SPECIALLY CALLED MEMBERS’ MEETING

We will have a Specially Called Members’ Meeting will on Wednesday, September 6, at 6:30pm in Room 342. The item of business will be the election of the deacons nominated at our recent August Members’ Meeting.  The deacon nominees’ testimonies are available here.

CHURCH PICNIC – SAVE THE DATE

Join us for our annual Churchwide Picnic on Sunday, September 10!  We’ll gather at 4:00pm at Forest Hills Park, and begin serving dinner at 5:00pm.  The church is providing BBQ pork with the fixings, and drinks. Please bring a favorite picnic dish and/or dessert, plus lawn chairs if you have them. Please sign up online HERE by Thursday, September 7. For those without access to the internet, please call the church office to notify us of your plans to join us. This will help us adequately prepare for the picnic. Don’t miss this fun time of fellowship, recreation, and great food!

CHILDREN’S MARTIAL ARTS CLASS

The FBC children’s martial arts class will begin on Monday, September 18.  Classes are held Monday and Thursday evenings from 5:30-6:15pm at FBC.  Children interested in starting should be between the ages of 6-9. Please contact Walter Lee for more info.

MEN’S RETREAT – EARLY REGISTRATION

Please plan to join us for the Men’s Retreat on November 3-4 at Caraway Conference Center in Asheboro, NC. In light of the 500thanniversary of the Reformation, Nathan Finn will be speaking on how the Reformation affects the issues that men face today.  Beginning July 1, register early and receive a discounted rate of $75 per person!  Beginning September 1 the cost will increase to $95 per person.  Registration cost includes on-site meals and lodging.  CLICK HERE to register.

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED

The Caring Center is in need of volunteers to work on the following days:  *1st Friday (1 or 2 people), *2nd Friday (1 or 2 people), *2nd Saturday (2 people), *3rd Friday (1 person).  You would work from 10:00am -12:00pm once a month on the day you are assigned or fill-in as we have needs. This is a great opportunity to serve and share with the community, as well as to fellowship with other church members (volunteer work is a nice addition on a college application!). Men and women welcome, and responsible kids 13 and older (without a parent). Please contact Kelly Pendergraft thecaringcenter@yahoo.com, if you are interested in serving.  We would love to have you!

Have you joined the new First Durham Connection?  The software recently had a major upgrade which now offers an improved interface with an easy-to-use online membership directory, online giving, communication with your Home Fellowship group, BFL class, ministry teams, and more! Members should have received an email inviting you to join the new First Durham Connection (please check your Junk/Spam folders for an email from notifications@onrealm.org).  If for some reason you did not receive an email invitation please contact the church office.
