Book of Acts

Leader:  Tom Geers

Luke in Acts gives the progress of the gospel from the Holy City throughout the Roman Empire. Acts reveals to us the power of the gospel, the power of the Holy Spirit, and the obedience of the early disciples. We will give attention to the success and opposition of the preached message. Come join us this year as we seek to encourage one another through fellowship, prayer, and the unfolding of God’s Word.

Books of Colossians & Philemon, Sermon Application & Review

Leader:  im Pyrant

Come join us as we begin the semester studying the books of Colossians and Philemon. From Colossians we will learn of Christ’s supremacy and how He frees us from human regulations and guides us into holy living. Sermon Application & Review

Leader: Kevin Schaub

The first chapter of James aptly reminds us, “Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says.” It is so easy for us to listen to messages, read books, and go to Bible studies, amassing information and yet failing to integrate the truth we have learned into our lives.  In an effort to get more out of the incredibly powerful sermons we hear every Sunday morning, Sermon Application and Review will be focused on discussing the morning sermon in order to have meaningful give-and-take (conversation) over the Word and to encourage a deeper application of biblical truth into our daily lives.

The Book of Psalm

Leader: Andy Winn

Have you ever noticed how applicable the Psalms are to our lives? The Psalms are a collection of songs, prayers, and poems of godly individuals that deeply desire to know, love, and understand the sovereign God. This book has encouraged people for centuries and has given comfort, understanding, and hope to those in the midst of fear, confusion, and despair. The Psalms teach us how to live fruitful lives by securing our hope in the one and only true God.  Each week we will choose one Psalm for study, discussion, and prayer while seeking to be encouraged as we apply the deep truths of Psalms to our lives.  All are welcome to join us for this fruitful, devotional study of the Psalms.

The Life and Teachings of Jesus in Luke

Leaders: Sean Lawley & Tim MacArthur

One of the principal features of our home fellowship will be interaction with many international scholars who have come to the area to study. This is an exciting opportunity to mingle with Christians from other parts of the world in addition to seekers who have just heard the name of Jesus for the first time.  Because of the diverse background of the group, there will likely be many ready-made opportunities for evangelism and discipleship.  Our study will be flexible according to the needs of the group but will principally focus on the fundamental questions of who was Jesus, what did He do, what did He teach, and why does this matter 2,000 years later.

Psalm 120-134 (Psalms of Assent)

Leader: Daniel Renstrom

Psalms 120-134 are named The Psalms of Assent because pilgrims often read these Psalms as they journeyed up to Jerusalem. The Psalms of Assent deal with a variety of topics, from joy and worship to humility and waiting. These Psalms are a blessing to Christians because they give us words to put with the range of emotions, feelings and thoughts that we go through. In the same way that those pilgrims journeyed to Jerusalem, we too are on a similar journey. We will benefit from praying, singing and speaking the same ways they did.

Book of 2 Peter

Leader: Blake Woodlief

Join us at the Perry’s house as we study 2 Corinthians. We will look at the God of all comfort, forgiveness in the church, and reconciliation. We will look at generosity and giving. We will look at suffering through weakness and rejoice with Paul that God’s power is made perfect in weakness so that when we are weak, then we are strong. Second Corinthians is a letter to a church and so we will spend the year reflecting on its message and how it applies to us at FBC.

Pastoral Epistles

Leaders: Ron Halbrooks & Others

Because the LORD is coming back, James writes to fellow believers to teach, correct and rebuke them in many different areas. These believers have wandered from applying the gospel to every area in life and are living according to earthly wisdom rather than the wisdom from above. During our time together we will see how the gospel applies to life, what the gospel produces in one’s life and how the gospel teaches one to live in a sin cursed world.

Book of 1 Peter

Leaders: Philip Braderick & Ray Martin

How are Christians to live in a world increasingly hostile to the Gospel? What does it mean for us to be a new creation? Because of Christ’s life, death and resurrection, we have an eternal hope that allows us to live righteously and set apart as God’s people. This study examines why Christians suffer and how we can endure and persevere in the faith because of the suffering of Christ and our heavenly inheritance.

Book of Judges

Leader: Greg Fox

It was a time where everyone did what was right in his own eyes. From one generation to another the cycle repeats itself: God’s people turn away from His blessings, judgment ensues, prayers for forgiveness go up, and God provides a deliverer. Their time is not dissimilar to ours; their response all too similar. Ours will be a study of the Deliverer we can turn to time and again. This study will also illuminate pitfalls of disobedience in a darkened world.

Letter to the Romans

Leader: Ryan Hutchinson

Understanding the foundation doctrines of the need to the substitutionary atonement and how that was accomplished through Christ will be explored in this study. This study will also take those foundational teachings and show us how to appropriate them in our walk with Christ. Romans will show us the depth of our disgrace before God, but the height of our exaltation in Christ as co-heirs with Him!

Letter to the Ephesians

Leaders: Michael Dickerson & Michael Metarko

It would not be an overstatement to say, as one author writes, that “The letter to the Ephesians is one of the most significant documents ever written.” Although a short letter, it contains rich theological truths that have much to teach us, from the nature, blessing and certainty of our salvation to our relationship with Christ and one another as a church, and how all of that is to be reflected in our daily lives, both as individuals and in our relationships with others. It is at the same time both encouraging and challenging, but its truth is sure to strengthen us as individuals and as a church. Join us as we dive into a verse-by-verse of this fascinating letter and seek together to “attain the unity of the faith and of the knowledge of the Son of God,” to the praise of His glory!

Book of Acts

Leader: Nathan Finn

The Acts of the Apostles provides us with a snapshot of the church during its earliest decades. In this study, we’ll learn about the work of the Holy Spirit, the missionary advance of the church, the relationship between Jews and Gentiles, the importance of apologetics, and the power of the gospel. Some of the main characters will be the early apostles (especially Peter), James the brother of Jesus, Philip and Stephen the deacon-evangelists, and the Apostle Paul and his missionary colleagues. If you want to learn more about the nature and purpose of the church, join us for this study.
