The qualification for the office of deacon is described in 1 Timothy 3: 8-13. The church recognizes, in accordance with the provisions of elections, members (men or women) who are giving of themselves in service to the church, and who possess particular gifts of service. These members are received as gifts of Christ to His church and set apart as deacons. A deacon may serve for two consecutive three-year terms, and cannot be re-elected to serve again as a deacon without a one year absence from service. The deacons shall perform duties assigned by the elders.
