The Worship ministry at FBCD has several priorities that we try to keep in front of us as we plan and lead times of corporate worship. First we believe that our corporate worship is a response to the self revelation of God from Scripture. The term we use for this is Revelation and Response. As we see God clearly in Scripture we respond together by worshiping Him.

Secondly, it’s important that we remember that we are planning for corporate worship and not private worship. Both are absolutely necessary for the healthy Christian life. But these two aren’t the same. Corporate worship is aimed toward building up the entire body. Therefore we want to plan songs, prayers, sermons and exhortations that will lead the body of Christ to worship.
Third, we have a priority of singing culturally sensible and theologically rich songs.  We try to lead songs that have words and images in them that make sense to our culture.  At times we might sing a song that has a deep or uncommon theological concept or term. When that happens we want to explain what the words mean. Colossians 3 is clear that we don’t gather just to sing songs, we gather to have the “Word of Christ dwelling richly inside us.” Our songs are a form of corporate discipleship: Teaching us more about Christ, and giving us language to express praise, thanks, joy, sorrow and confession to God.

Lastly, we plan for our times of worship to feel very theologically intentional but not unnecessarily formal. Our services are filled with times of prayer where we corporately confess our sin, and express thanksgiving and praise to God. We’ll sing hymns and songs that are theologically rich. We also participate in giving, and in baptisms and a monthly Lord’s Supper. The preaching of God’s Word is primary each service, and our desire for the whole service is to glorifying to God and helpful for those who participate in the worship service.

Each week, information on the upcoming worship service is available here. The songs and sermon texts are listed to help in preparation for the service.
