This class is an introduction to the Christian doctrines of Man, Christ, and the Holy Spirit. God created humans in His own image, and set them up as the rulers of His creation. But instead of trusting God’s promises, the first humans gave in to temptation and sought to be in control of their own destiny. Humanity’s only hope is Jesus Christ, the second person of the Trinity and the central character in God’s plan for His creation. He accomplished salvation through His perfect life, atoning death, and victorious resurrection from death. After ascending to heaven, He sent the third person of the Trinity, the Holy Spirit, to indwell every believer, gifting and empowering them for ministry.
In this class, we will learn about:
- God’s creation of humanity in His image and His covenantal relations with humans
- Original sin and its consequences for humanity and the entire created order
- Jesus Christ’s preexistence as eternal God, incarnation as a historical man, and saving work for humanity
- The Holy Spirit’s person and ministry
